What is Toll-Free Sender Verification?

Toll-Free sender verification is a lightweight registration process where customers’ business information and use cases are submitted to the wireless carriers in order to verify the business is who they say they are, with the end goal of weeding out bad actors and spam generators for. Verification is required in order to originate traffic from a toll-free number for both U.S. and Canadian destinations. 

Toll-free sender verification requires a completed Verified Sender Form (VSF). The client must complete the online Verified Sender Form (VSF) found here: Toll-Free Verified Sender Form. 

On the VSF, the client will provide information on the business (message sender), messaging use case, opt-in process, and sample message content associated with their Toll-Free number. After completion, Sinch will submit the Verified Sender information to the wireless carriers for review and approval. The turn around time for Toll-Free Sender Verification is up to 5 business days.

What are the benefits of going through the Verified Sender process? 

• Verification is required in order to originate toll-free messaging traffic on the carriers'  network
• Carrier-sanctioned messaging channel
• Increased protection for your customer’s brand
• No volumetric restrictions

 

What does “Verified” mean? 

• A “Verified” number means that the traffic does not fall into Sinch's A2P Messaging in the United States & Canada - Disallowed Content and is able to confirm that the traffic is in line with Carrier Best Practices (see US Product compliance info) for sending content. It also means that the Toll-Free with the business submitted through the process. 

 

What happens if my Toll-Free numbers are not verified?

• Messages from unverified TFNs will be blocked. TFNs must be verified in order to originate traffic. Please refer to Do I need to complete a Verified Sender Form for my Toll-Free number?

 

Is there an automatic way to verify a number? 

• At this time, there is no automatic way to complete sender verification for TFNs. Every VSF is submitted and reviewed manually by Sinch.

Unverified toll-free numbers (TFNs) and Pending Verification toll-free numbers (TFNs) are subject to industry-wide message blocking. Unverified toll-free numbers are TFNs that have not completed the toll-free sender verification process. Pending Verification toll-free numbers are TFNs where a verification request has been submitted, but the request is pending review and approval. 

Note: In the past it was possible to send messages from an Unverified TFN or Pending Verification TFN. However, as a result of industry-wide changes, all toll-free numbers, regardless of the use case, must be Verified to originate traffic.

UNVERIFIED toll-free numbers (TFNs) are subject to industry-wide message blocking, effective November 8, 2023.

PENDING VERIFICATION toll-free numbers (TFNs) are subject to industry-wide message blocking, effective January 31, 2024.

All toll-free numbers (TFNs) must be in a VERIFIED state in order to originate traffic.

Unverified TFNs and TFNs pending verification will be blocked with Sinch error code 64 “Blocked due to exceeded quota”. Please see Toll-Free Delivery Report Errors for a full list of Sinch Toll-Free error codes.
