As we know, unregistered A2P traffic is subject to be shutdown at any time. It's important to move any existing unregistered traffic to 10DLC as soon as possible in order to avoid interruption to services. As of April 1st, 2024, major carriers like AT&T will block unregistered traffic for a minimum of 30 days upon detection of problematic behavior, with the ominous possibility of permanent disconnection.

First and foremost, the move towards discontinuing unregistered A2P traffic is rooted in the necessity for enhanced accountability and transparency. Unregistered traffic often operates within a gray area, allowing bad actors to exploit vulnerabilities for fraudulent activities such as spamming, phishing, and scamming unsuspecting recipients. These malicious activities not only compromise the integrity of A2P messaging but also stain the reputation of genuine businesses utilizing this communication channel.

Transitioning to a registered 10DLC number offers a multitude of benefits for businesses and consumers alike. Registration ensures compliance with carrier regulations, and improved message deliverability and reliability. With a registered number, businesses gain access to enhanced throughput and prioritized routing, thereby optimizing the performance of their A2P campaigns. This, in turn, translates to better engagement and conversion rates, ultimately driving business growth and success.

That said, there have been some additional changes regarding the 10DLC Messaging Product as it relates to Message Termination Fees.

Sinch and our Carrier Partners are continuously working to make changes that will improve the ecosystem and encourage healthy messaging. As part of that, gaining your adoption of sanctioned messaging routes has been critical to all our MNO Partners.
