Both Google and Apple have agreed to follow the industry approved RCS Universal Profile specs. In some cases, Google has added support for features, like encryption, that are not included in Universal Profile. As features are added to the Universal Profile Apple will support them as well.
However, it is likely that the look and feel of some features will be different on Apple and Android devices.
