ARCEP, the French telecommunications regulator has updated the French national numbering plan to stipulate that French mobile numbers (numbers beginning with 06 and 07) must be used for interpersonal purposes only. It has also introduced a new 09 number range to enable communications between platforms and mobile numbers – further details can be found here. This new rule takes effect from January 1, 2023.
It is possible to register for the WhatsApp Business Platform with a non-mobile number so long as that phone number can receive a voice call or SMS. It is also possible to change the number associated with an existing WhatsApp Business Platform account.
