Several of Sinch's services require you to create a Meta Business Portfolio (formerly Business Manager)This portfolio is an essential tool that allows you to professionally manage all your Meta assets, including your Facebook Page, Instagram profile, and WhatsApp Business Account, in one secure place. This guide will walk you through creating your Meta Business Portfolio.

Prerequisites

Prior to creating the Business Portfolio, ensure you have the following information and materials easily accessible:

  • A personal Facebook profile

    • To verify your identity, Meta requires a real, active personal Facebook account.

    • The personal account must be at least seven days old.

    • The individual associated with the personal Facebook account must complete identity verification before the Business Portfolio can be used in production.

  • For security, it is highly recommended to enable Two-Factor Authentication on your personal Facebook account before you start. This adds a critical layer of protection to both your personal account and your new business assets.

  • Your business' information. This includes your business':

    • Legal name

    • Physical address

    • Phone number

    • Website

Creating the Business Portfolio

The process for creating a Meta Business Portfolio is described in their article Create a business portfolio in Meta Business Suite. The process is summarized below:

  1. Navigate to business.facebook.com/overview. Click Create Account.

  2. Log in to the personal Facebook account detailed in the Prerequisites section of this guide.

  3. Enter your business' details:

    • Your Business Name and Account Name must be your business' legal name.

    • Your Name is pre-filled from using information from your personal Facebook account.

    • Your Business Email Address must be your professional email address.

  4. Submit the form and check your business email inbox for a verification link from Meta. Once you locate the link click it to confirm your account.

Verifying your business

After creating your portfolio, Meta requires you to verify your business. This step is crucial for gaining full access to business features, including managing a WhatsApp Business Account.

Business verification requires you to provide documentation that confirms your business details. Meta provides a list of official documents required for verifying your business. The details are summarized below:

  • You must provide official documentation that shows your legal business name and physical address. Such documents may include:

    • A utility bill for your company (e.g., electricity, water, phone)

    • A bank statement displaying your business' address. Note that the name and address on the document must exactly match the business name and address you entered when creating the Business Portfolio.

  • Accepted verification documents vary by country and business type.

Note: Meta supports localized documents - for example, CNPJ for businesses in Brazil, RUT in Chile, EIN in the United States, and equivalent registrations in other markets.

Before submitting, please review Meta's full list of accepted documents for your country and business type; submitting an unsupported document is one of the most common causes of verification rejection.

Adding users to your Business Portfolio

You can start adding users immediately after your Business Portfolio has been successfully created. You do not need to wait for business verification to be complete to add people, but their access to certain features (for example, the WhatsApp Business API) may be limited until verification is done.

The process for adding users to your Business Portfolio is described in Meta's article Add people to a business portfolio and assign a business asset. The process is summarized below:

  1. Navigate to your Business Portfolio at https://business.facebook.com/ and click on the settings gear icon on the left-hand menu.

  2. Under the Users category in the navigation bar, click People. This is where you manage all individuals who have access to your portfolio.

  3. Click Add People. A form that allows you to invite a user to your Business Portfolio is displayed.

  4. Enter the business email address of the user you wish to invite. Note that this must be the user's professional email address; do not use personal email addresses.

  5. Assign the user a Business Role:

    • Employee Access (Recommended): The user can only work on the specific assets you assign to them. They cannot change settings or manage users.

    • Admin Access: The user has full control over the entire Business Portfolio. They can add/remove users, change settings, and even delete the portfolio.
Only grant this role with extreme caution.

  6. Assign assets and task permissions. For each asset (for example, a Facebook Page, Ad Account, or Pixel), you must define what the invited user can do.

  7. Click Invite to send the invitation.

The user will receive an email invitation to join your Business Portfolio. They must click the link in their email and log in to accept the invitation and gain access.

Troubleshooting

If your personal Facebook account is suspended or blocked at the beginning of the creation process, or if your Business Portfolio becomes banned after creation, you may take steps to troubleshoot your situation.

Regaining access to a suspended personal Facebook account

Troubleshooting account suspension begins with knowing why your account might have been suspended. Personal Facebook accounts are suspended immediately after the account is created due to suspected inauthentic behavior, such as using a VPN, suspicious IP address, rapid activity, or creating a new account after a previous ban. The most common reasons for immediate suspension include:

Suspension reason Explanation
Triggered Security Filters Using a VPN, public Wi-Fi, or a temporary email address often flags new accounts.
Device/IP Flagging If you had an account suspended previously, Facebook may recognize your IP address or device and automatically block the new one.
Inauthentic Behavior Using fake names, lack of a profile picture, or immediately sending multiple friend requests can make the account seem automated.

To regain access, use the official Facebook Help Center appeal process to submit identity verification.

Unblocking your personal Facebook account

If your Facebook account is blocked, you can create an operational support ticket. Ensure your select one of the Direct Support categories when creating your ticket.

Appealing a Business Portfolio ban

If your Business Portfolio gets banned or restricted, you can appeal the Business Portfolio ban. Prior to requesting an appeal, ensure you have access to the appropriate verifying documents and information. This may include:

  • Business documents (For example, registration documents, VAT, etc.)

  • Proof of identity

  • An explanation of the circumstances that led to the ban (if known)

Once you have your materials prepared, you may attempt to appeal the ban. To appeal the Business Portfolio ban:

  1. Navigate to the Account Quality section of Meta Business Support Home.

  2. Locate the banned Business Portfolio.

  3. Click Request a review.
